When all we can do is call somebody else who can do what we cannot do
Sometimes, glimpse into cases of vulnerabilities are dropped in bite and bite which gives a lead to understanding the cases. Savior is a 1yr 8months old boy who was abandoned by his teenage mother whose whereabout is unknown till date. He was not only subjected to humiliating experiences but was physically abused and traumatised coupled with the starvation and being left to sleep outside under inhumane conditions. By the time we met him, he bore scares all of his body from wipes with stick, hitting his head on the wall, not to mention infections and kwashiorkor. We did not find him on our own and this rescue can be credited to the engaging power of social media. An Akwa Ibom Influencer Oga Yenne was tagged on an SOS on Facebook and since he has been following the work we do and knows i am the P.R.O Child Protection Network in Akwa Ibom State, he reached out and asked for our help in securing the life of this innocent child and we responded immediately. Though we met initial resistance and suspicion in the community because of the fear of child traffickers, the presence of the Police made things easy as we engaged the community (as though they truly cared) and they eventually trusted our intentions and the legitimacy of our work. He was given to us and we he was taken to the hospital where he spent 3 months recuperating. He would had been dead by now and seeing him today excelling in school and thriving in life is a testament to the importance of collaboration and the role of social media in social services
